Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our recently refurbished and very homely accommodation based in East London. After years of experience working in the Health Care sector, we are now embarking on starting our own service. You'll be joining us on this exciting journey to help us shape the service and demonstrate the excellent care we wholeheartedly stand for.

Our service will be supporting adult customers, who have learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues, supporting them to achieve their long term goals, transition to having more independence and live their best lives. How brilliant is that!

You’ll be based from our building on Trevelyan Road, which has a very warm and homely environment with a back garden which boasts of a well tendered garden, where we grow our own veg. Plus we’re in easy reach of local amenities (Westfields in Stratford, so don't blame us if your lunchtime is spent in the shopping city!).

Your role

You’ll be supporting our service users to live their day to day lives as independently as possible, helping with everyday activities, including daily living tasks, health, emotional and behavioural support. You’ll also be required to help service users, who have more complex needs, which will include personal care.

You’ll find that no two days are the same because everything we do is “person centred” around our service users. So you might be helping with personal care (like bathing and issuing medication) in the morning, supporting to cook their lunch and attending the local Community Centre in the afternoon. We even help service users to go on holiday!

You’ll assist in the delivery of tasks that are based on our service users personal support plans, ensuring at all times they feel valued, respected and that their dignity is maintained. You’ll also work closely with our Supported Living Manager and External Agencies to support our service users.

Our Registered Manager, has worked in the sector for over 10 years and has a wealth of experience. The manager is very approachable and is a firm believer in building and keeping team morale through ongoing supervision and positive team activities.

You’ll be part of our fabulous team, who love to share ideas on how best to support our service users over a slice of cake and biscuits and who are willing to carry their share in the required tasks.

Working hours

We provide 24-hour support to our customers, so you’ll work on a rota basis, normally 7.30 am to 10.30 pm, taking your turn to work days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays as well as sleep in shifts. We need you to be flexible to meet the needs of our customers, but in return, we’ll give you the time you need to spend it doing the things that matter to you!

Bank

Looking for a more flexible working pattern? You can also join us on a flexible basis by being part of our bank team of workers. You can work hours that fit around your current commitments or even pick up some additional shifts to your main role to earn some extra cash and get paid on a monthly basis.

About you

You’ll have a positive can do attitude and buzzing to help us make a big impact on our service users’ lives and shape our brilliant service. Your empathy will really shine through, as will your ability to empower service users to reach their full potential.

To make sure our service users are well supported, it’s important that you have worked in a supported housing environment before. You have a great understanding of professional boundaries, safeguarding, risk assessment, confidentiality, case management and providing personal care.

Don’t worry, we won’t drop you in the deep end, we’ll nurture your talent, help you understand how things work at Ascension Support and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support!

You’ll ideally hold a Level 2 certificate, equivalent in Health and Social Care. To make sure that we keep our records straight, and customers safe, it's really important that you are technologically savvy.

So if care and support are more than just a job for you and you can make every service user feel valued and respected, then we would love to hear from you.

When you join, you’ll need to have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service. The great news is that we will pay for that to be done if you don’t have a transferrable one.
